What Just Happened? (The Big Picture)

On 17th March 2026, Anthropic shipped a feature called Dispatch inside Claude Cowork that changes how we think about working with a computer.

The idea in one line: You text your computer from your phone. It does the work. You come back to finished files.

Think about what this means. You are sitting at a restaurant having dinner with your family. You remember that you need a report compiled from 10 PDF files sitting on your office computer. You pull out your phone, type a message to Claude: “Compile a summary report from the files in my Research folder.” You put your phone away. When you reach your office, the report is sitting there — done.

Your computer just became an employee that works while you are away.

What Is Claude Dispatch? (The Simple Explanation)

Dispatch is a new feature inside Claude Cowork (Anthropic’s desktop AI assistant). It creates one persistent conversation between your phone and your computer.

Until now, Claude Cowork required you to sit at your computer to give tasks. Dispatch removes that limitation. You can now message your desktop Cowork session from anywhere using the Claude mobile app on your phone.

Think of it like WhatsApp for your computer — but instead of chatting with a person, you are chatting with an AI assistant that has access to all the files on your desktop and can actually do work with them.

How Dispatch Works — 4 Simple Steps

Important: Your desktop must be ON and the Claude app must be open. Think of your phone as a remote control — the actual work happens on your computer.

Setting Up Dispatch (Under 2 Minutes)

1.     Make sure you have the latest Claude Desktop app (download from claude.com/download).

2.     Open Claude Desktop and go to the Cowork tab.

3.     Click “Dispatch” — you will see a QR code on your screen.

4.     Open the Claude app on your phone and scan this QR code.

Done. Your phone is now paired with your desktop. Start sending tasks immediately.

What Can You Dispatch from Your Phone?

For a Chartered Accountant

•        “Create a report from the documents in my Client_Assessments folder.”

•        “Organise my Downloads — sort tax documents by client name and year.”

•        “Read all Form 16 PDFs and compile salary details into one Excel sheet.”

•        “Check Gmail for emails from Income Tax Department and create a summary.”

For an Advocate

•        “Read the contract in Pending_Review folder and flag risky clauses.”

•        “Organise all case files by matter name and create an index document.”

•        “Draft a reply to the legal notice — original is in the Notices folder.”

For a Doctor

•        “Compile all lab reports for Patient ID 2045 into a single summary.”

•        “Create a PowerPoint from case studies in my Research folder.”

How Is This Different from TeamViewer?

In simple terms: TeamViewer gives you a remote screen. Dispatch gives you a remote employee.

Key Features

•        One Persistent Conversation: Unlike regular chat, Dispatch maintains one continuous conversation. Claude remembers what you discussed.

•        All Your Files Accessible: Claude accesses the folders you shared in Cowork — reads, creates, edits, organises files from your phone’s instruction.

•        Connectors Work: Gmail, Google Drive, Slack, and other connected tools are all available when dispatching from phone.

•        Sandboxed and Secure: Runs in a secure VM on your desktop. Both Cowork and Dispatch store all conversation history locally on your computer — not on Anthropic’s cloud servers. Your data never leaves your machine.

•        Status Updates: You get progress updates on your phone as Claude works — like a status feed from your digital coworker.

Important Limitations

•        Desktop Must Stay On: Computer needs to be awake with Claude app open. If it sleeps, Dispatch pauses.

•        Early Stage (Research Preview): Summarising and data retrieval works well, but complex tasks succeed about 50% of the time currently. This will improve.

•        No Push Notifications Yet: You need to check the app manually to see if a task is complete.

•        Single Thread: One Dispatch conversation at a time — no parallel sessions from phone.

•        Max Subscribers First: Rolling out to Max ($100/month) now. Pro ($20/month) gets access within days.

Why This Matters for Indian Professionals

•        Morning Commute: Dispatch tasks from your phone in Ahmedabad traffic. Reports ready when you reach office.

•        Client Meetings: Need data from your computer mid-meeting? Dispatch it. Ready before the meeting ends.

Claude Dispatch is a simple feature with a profound implication: your physical presence at your desk is no longer required for getting work done.

For years, we have been chained to our computers. Important work could only happen when we were sitting in front of the screen. Dispatch breaks that chain. Your computer now works for you — not the other way around.

It is still early days. The feature is in research preview and will improve. But the direction is clear: AI is moving from “a tool you sit down and use” to “a coworker you message and it delivers.”
